You will lie on your back for this treatment on one of the reclining chair (or in acupuncture room if available). Kandiss usually begins the session with a mindful breathing practice and abdominal massage to aide in relaxation and to increase circulation in the uterus.
Acupuncture needles are then gently inserted throughout the body As the needles are inserted you may feel a sensation for a few seconds, but this quickly dissipates after a few seconds. You will then rest for approximately 25 minutes with the needles in place with relaxation music playing (Kandiss will check in with you to ensure that you relaxed and no longer feeling any of the needles).
After 25 minutes the needles are removed and Kandiss with let your nurses know that you are ready from your embryo transfer procedure. Kandiss will wait nearby while you are doing your embryo transfer procedure.
Please Note: Once the needles are inserted, it is best not to move around too much. Therefore please drink enough water BEFORE starting the session to insure that your bladder will be ready in time for your embryo transfer.
Once you have had a chance to empty your bladder, the 2nd acupuncture sessions begins and needles are again inserted throughout your body this time is mostly different points than the ones used in the the pre-transfer treatment.
Again, the needles are left in place for another 25 minutes.
Treatment with Chinese medicine can be continued throughout the first trimester to protect early pregnancy and prevent miscarriage. Chinese medicine has a long history of treating underlying factors that can lead to miscarriage.
In her practice, Kandiss continues to see women once per week through the 12th week of pregnancy, then once per month up into 36 weeks to foster health fetal development. At 36 weeks, once per week acupuncture is done to promote efficient natural labour and delivery.
